Battleships Sales Incentive Game

This game can be played virtually or using a whiteboard in the office.

The rules are quite simple. There are two boards – one you control (the admin board) and the game board. Draw up your 5 most important key metrics (I usually focus on inputs rather than outputs) and each time one of your SDR’s hit one of those metrics they get the opportunity to guess where a battleship has been placed on the game board. Reference that with the admin board and paint the cell in a red colour if its a hit or a yellow if it’s a miss. I usually put the SDR’s name in initials inside the cell so I can track who has guessed where and also see who is performing well.

The winner is based on the number of total ships sunk – not total hits. This gives equal opportunity to people to win based on strategy and pushes performance at different times during the day based on where the game is currently situated.

Based on the number of metrics it’s entirely possible to reduce the number of ships, increase the board size or increase the number of metrics you measure to secure a turn. I usually tie the win to a particular paid or non-paid incentive in the office and continually post updates if I’m running the game remotely.

I’ve attached an excel spreadsheet for you to use..

COVID-19 Tips on How to Work Remotely

A few simple tips to assist you in working remotely.

  • Stay connected to your team but try and avoid micromanaging them (don’t be in their face all day, show them that you trust them).
  • Set your expectations out clearly. What time they start work, take breaks, attend meetings etc. Do this by writing out a list of what good looks like to you.
  • Continue with your daily rhythms as best you can.
  • Continue to celebrate success wherever possible. This can relieve the monotony of sitting down by yourself each day.
  • Check in with everyone once a day!
  •  Keep good clear communication.

Team Building WFH (Working From Home) amidst COVID-19

So, we find ourselves now part of a huge social working experiment. Working from home is the new norm and I’ve had to shift my entire team into the new age and still produce the same results and I’m dedicating this post to those who find themselves in a similar situation and who wish to continue team building activities remotely.

Tools I have Found Invaluable

  • Microsoft Teams –  Teams has allowed me to continue my daily rhythms and  conduct my block meetings. We can play games like scategories and quizzes and I can contact agents instantaneously.
  • HouseParty – If you’re looking for a way to have a bit of fun and break up the monotony you can play games like Heads Up!, Trivia, Chips and Guac, and Quick Draw, and each game can have up to eight players at once, all connected via video link. (just search for it in your Apps Store)
